If you are unaware of the comic book series “Crossed” by Garth Ennis, it is of no surprise.
Some book stores have the grotesque and morally taboo comic banned from their shelves. It depicts rape, child murder, decapitation and a long list of other depravities that would make the worst sinner cringe.
However, it is one of the best damn books I have ever read.
In typical Garth Ennis form (See The Preacher series), the book opens with a traditional setting and ends in bloodshed and moral hypocrisy.
We follow a small group traveling, no running, cross country to escape a plague that turns normal people into savage maniacs that operate on devilish primordial instincts that are only satisfied with the destruction of the human race.
Of course, like most good post-apocalyptic stories, the turmoil within the survivors drives the story line. The maniacs hunting them become a sub-plot.
Not much of a comic Book reader?
You are in luck.
A few days ago, Kevin Spacey’s production company bought the rights to produce this story into a film. Garth Ennis is supposedly on board to pen the script.
Here is issue #0 for you to enjoy. All other issues can be ordered from the Avatar Press website or through the Amazon link on our homepage.
